Is Your Landing Page PPV-Ready?

No matter what type of traffic you are working with, as an Affiliate you are probably using a landing page to get the most out of your campaigns. This is especially important with PPV traffic, since you only have such a short time to capture their interest.

It is fairly common knowledge among PPV marketers that the top PPV networks will pop a window that is 800×600 pixels, not full screen width and height. What you may not know, however, is just how little of that space is actually devoted to your ad.

Here is a screenshot from an actual pop from the Hotbar software, which is where Lead Impact gets their traffic. Notice how much space is taken up by the address bar, navigation buttons, and the Hotbar toolbar itself (which they most likely have installed if they have Hotbar on their system):

I was pretty surprised the first time I saw this. If you want anything to be guaranteed above the fold, at least on Lead Impact, you had better make it above the 400px line. There are almost no default offer pages that are laid out this way, since they are designed to be viewed on a full browser window. If you are direct linking, there is a good chance you are just throwing money down the drain. I’m not saying 100% of the time, but a lot of the time that’s what happens.

A good way to make sure that your page is going to look the way you want it to is to try it out with the Yet Another Window Resizer add-on for Firefox (or one of the many other add-ons that have this feature). You can set it to any custom size, like 800×600.

The more informed you are about what people are seeing when your ads pop up, the better you can tailor it to them and grab their attention. Make sure that your calls to action, eye-catching images, and important elements are visible before you launch that campaign!

Next time you should condense your post, try to leave out the parts that people skip.

  2. I really appreciate this post. Most people submit ppv traffic campaigns to their regular site and do not even bother to make sure everything is above the fold. It is a pop up so people are not going to scroll. Also a clear call to action maybe with up to 5 short bullet points is ideal.

  3. Hi Josh,

Good post, but I was wondering what about Traffic Vance – what size should my landing pages be? My account manager says the landing page itself (without the title bar, toolbar etc.) should be 800×600, in contrast to the Lead Impact Case.

    What do you recommend?
